Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
