Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he enjoyed gambling on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting very aggressive in these card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a bit and moved to New York to participate in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were difficult as he played countless hours and lost most times. He made some extra cash by becoming an runner for the poker players. He judged he could boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more rest and focus even more on the game.
The actual improvement in his skills happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would often wager against one another. Howard had access into a few of the greatest players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his logical thinking skills. He used these strategic concepts in the game of NL holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker arena has ever seen. He moved to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the following decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
