Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
